[08-19-25] Witness Recalls Chaotic Scene After Truck Crashes Into Bar Patio: Everyone Was Just Screaming

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — A witness is sharing moments from the chaotic scene when a 22-year-old driver allegedly plowed through the Ugly Dog Sports Cafe patio on Saturday night in Adams County.

The driver is suspected of having been impaired and police say that four people were injured in the crash. The driver is in custody while the investigation continues.

Police tape marks the patio days after the crash.

What was supposed to be a casual Saturday night watching a UFC fight turned into chaos.

Taylor Thul is a regular at the bar who was one of many people rushing to help. He was able to catch part of the aftermath on camera.

“So, I got to watch the last fight of the night and then there was a couple of guys up there shooting pool. I decided to shoot some pool. I was at the pool table closest to the patio. When all of a sudden we heard a bunch of crashing and banging and stuff,” said Thul. “Maybe there is a fight outside or something.”

When Thul went outside, he learned that wasn’t the case when he saw people on the ground bleeding.

“There was a girl laying on the ground with her friend holding her, yelling for help to try to get someone to get a cell phone so she could call her family or make people aware of the incident that had happened,” Thul recalled. “There was another guy that was in a wheelchair that had also been run over in the incident. There was another guy laying over on the ground.

“When I first went outside right away, I went over and checked underneath the truck, make sure that there was no one trapped underneath the truck,” Thul added. “I mean, just to see the people injured, laying there on the ground, you know, bleeding. When I went out there, everyone was just screaming.”

Thul says security held the driver until law enforcement arrived. Bar staff rushed in to help. He says that despite the chaos, everyone acted fast.

“At that time, the driver of the vehicle had already stepped out and he seemed very apologetic, I mean, he was like, ‘Oh, my God, I’m so sorry,’” said Thul. “He had his hands out like this, like, you know, like, you know, if you put your hands out in front, he had to be cuffed, you know, like he knew he was in trouble.”

Colorado State Patrol says the 22-year-old driver was taken into detox and is suspected of driving under the influence. Troopers believe he clipped a guardrail before losing control and slamming into the patio area. He’s facing multiple counts of vehicular assault.

“It was a really crazy incident but I do feel like, for how crazy the incident was, I feel like everyone there kind of handled the situation the best they could,” Thul said.

Troopers are reviewing evidence and the driver could face additional charges as the investigation continues.

DENVER TRUCK ACCIDENT FACTS

Colorado’s roads, by nature, are considered far more dangerous than most of the country. The mountains offer challenges to trucks that require slowing techniques that prevent smoking brakes.

The Colorado Department of Transportation has built 13 runaway truck ramps on mountains, mostly on I-70. The most used is on the descent from the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels to Silverthorne.

There have been continuous calls to improve the state’s trucking routes, amongst bigger calls for improved driver standards.
