Timeline of the crash is below:
A major crash happened Tuesday morning that has eastbound I-70 backed up for miles. The crash occurred around 6:15am on eastbound I-70 at the I-225 interchange. Only one lane of eastbound I-70 was open and only 1 lane of northbound I-225 to eastbound I-70 was open causing major backups there too.
Many drivers are trying to use 58th Ave. That is very heavy between Quebec St and Pena Blvd. 47th Ave past Peoria into Montbello can be used as an alternate as well.
The latest on this incident:
7:10am | No movement with the vehicles involved. Backup reached Quebec Street, 4 1/2 miles away from the crash scene. It is about a 60 minute dealy.
7:15am | No change with clearing the vehicles from the crash. The backup has reached before Quebec Street. Drive time on I-70 is 65 minutes. It is also affecting eastbound I-270 with a 30 minute drive time there.
7:20am | Private tow is on scene working to clear the wreck. Backup still from before Quebec Street. Still no official word when all lanes could reopen.
7:35am | Crash cleanup and investigation continues. Traffic slowing starts before Quebec with a 60+ minute drive time. New crash near here on eastbound I-270 before Vasquez in the left lane involving a semi. That backup goes to I-25 with a 30 minute drive time.
7:45am | Looking at the E 56th alternate route… it is about a 25 minute drive time from Quebec to Pena Blvd with heavy traffic behind all of the traffic signals. Still no change with the number of lanes blocked or the 60 minute drive time on eastbound I-70.
8:00am | One additional lane of eastbound I-70 has opened at the crash scene. That is helping move a bit more traffic through. Backups still begin near Quebec Street. This crash is causing a 40 minute delay on westbound 70 as drivers look at the crash on the other side of the interstate. The crash on eastbound I-270 with a semi before Vasquez remains in the left lane. Other notable wrecks…. rollover on Colfax at Knox Ct / northbound I-25 before Happy Canyon / westbound C-470 near Santa Fe.
8:10am | Still just 2 eastbound lanes on I-70 are open and one lane from northbound I-225 to eastbound 70 is open. Backup from about Colorado Blvd. Drive time remains around 60 minutes. The crash on eastbound I-25 with a semi remains in the left lane before Vasquez. Other notable crashes: Rollover on Colfax at Knox Ct. / Westbound 6th Ave after Sheridan / Northbound 25 before Happy Canyon
8:25am | Cones are getting picked up as they are getting ready to clear the last of the wreck. Only the express lane remains blocked at this point.
9:05am | Crash cleared and all lanes opened. The slow traffic will take a bit to recover.
