[06-03-25] Man Dies in Crash That Closed 6th Avenue in Aurora Monday Afternoon

DENVER (KDVR) — A man is dead following a crash Monday afternoon in Aurora.

According to a report from the Aurora Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of East 6th Avenue and Moline Street just after 2 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a crash.

A Ford Fusion and a Nissan Altima, each with one occupant, were involved in the crash.

The police department said a man who was driving one of the vehicles was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries but died shortly after arrival. His identity will be determined by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

The other driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Westbound 6th Avenue was closed due to the crash, but eastbound traffic was not affected, police said. Police said at about 3:30 p.m., they had no estimate for when the road would reopen.

Possible causes of the crash remain under investigation and the police department said it will provide updates.

CAR ACCIDENT STATISTICS

Car accidents continue to cause thousands of deaths and serious injuries across the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an estimated 39,345 people died in traffic crashes nationwide in 2024.

Colorado also continues to see hundreds of traffic deaths each year. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, 684 people were killed on Colorado roads in 2024. Of those deaths, 371 involved passenger vehicle occupants.

Denver drivers face additional risks on heavily traveled arterial roads. Corridors such as Colfax Avenue and Federal Boulevard have been identified as part of Denver’s High Injury Network, which includes streets with some of the city’s highest concentrations of fatal and serious-injury crashes.

Car accidents can involve two vehicles, several vehicles, pedestrians, motorcycles, or commercial trucks. Multi-vehicle crashes can become especially complicated because several drivers may share responsibility and multiple insurance policies may apply.

Common factors that can contribute to serious car accidents include:

  • Distracted driving
  • Speeding
  • Impaired driving
  • Reckless or aggressive driving
  • Unsafe lane changes
  • Failure to yield
  • Wrong-way driving
  • Following too closely
  • Failure to obey traffic signals
  • Dangerous weather or road conditions

If you or someone you love has been injured in a crash, a Denver car accident lawyer can investigate what happened and help determine which parties and insurance policies may be responsible.
