[06-07-26] Deadly I-25 Crash Near 6th Avenue Brings Denver Commute to a Halt

A late-week commute on southbound Interstate 25 turned tragic Thursday when a driver was killed in a collision near the 6th Avenue interchange, Denver police said. The crash brought emergency crews racing to the scene and choked traffic in the area as tow trucks and investigators worked to clear the wreckage. Drivers were pushed onto nearby surface streets while officers processed evidence and slowly reopened lanes.

In a brief update posted Friday evening on the department’s X account, Denver police said the crash involved a southbound vehicle that struck a stalled vehicle, and that both drivers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver who collided with the stalled car was later pronounced dead at the hospital, as reported by The Denver Post. Authorities have not released the names of those involved and said the investigation remains active.

Officers from Denver Police’s crash reconstruction unit and tow crews remained at the scene while southbound lanes were blocked so damaged vehicles could be removed and evidence documented. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has cellphone video to contact the department as they work to piece together what led up to the crash.
