[11-03-25] 2 Injured in Arvada Hit-And-Run, Troopers Searching for Suspect

ARVADA, Colo. (KKTV) – Colorado State Patrol (CSP) is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect in a hit-and-run on Friday.

CSP said troopers responded to the crash on eastbound Interstate 76 at the southbound Sheridan Street exit in Arvada around 11:19 a.m.

Troopers said they learned that a green Subaru SUV that was stolen earlier on Friday was on the Sheridan exit as it went over a cement curb and entered the southbound lane, crashing into the driver’s side of a silver Honda Fit.

According to troopers, the driver of the Subaru was seen running from the scene, heading toward Inspiration Trailer Park.

The 37-year-old male driver of the Honda and a 47-year-old female passenger were both taken to a hospital following the crash, CSP said. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Arvada police, Jefferson County deputies and a K9 searched for the suspect following that crash, but the suspect was not found.

Troopers described the suspect as a male wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans. A photo of the suspect, taken from a surveillance camera on Friday, is shown above.

Troopers said the photo was taken at a Valero gas station where the Subaru was stolen at 88th Avenue and Wadsworth in Westminster.

CAR ACCIDENT STATISTICS

Car accidents continue to cause thousands of deaths and serious injuries across the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an estimated 39,345 people died in traffic crashes nationwide in 2024.

Colorado also continues to see hundreds of traffic deaths each year. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, 684 people were killed on Colorado roads in 2024. Of those deaths, 371 involved passenger vehicle occupants.

Denver drivers face additional risks on heavily traveled arterial roads. Corridors such as Colfax Avenue and Federal Boulevard have been identified as part of Denver’s High Injury Network, which includes streets with some of the city’s highest concentrations of fatal and serious-injury crashes.

Car accidents can involve two vehicles, several vehicles, pedestrians, motorcycles, or commercial trucks. Multi-vehicle crashes can become especially complicated because several drivers may share responsibility and multiple insurance policies may apply.

Common factors that can contribute to serious car accidents include:

  • Distracted driving
  • Speeding
  • Impaired driving
  • Reckless or aggressive driving
  • Unsafe lane changes
  • Failure to yield
  • Wrong-way driving
  • Following too closely
  • Failure to obey traffic signals
  • Dangerous weather or road conditions

If you or someone you love has been injured in a crash, a Denver car accident lawyer can investigate what happened and help determine which parties and insurance policies may be responsible.
